# Connect Claude managed agent

> Create a Claude managed agent with Anthropic credentials via the Novu CLI, connect Slack, and send your first message. No bridge server.

Create a managed agent on Anthropic Claude and connect it to Slack with the Novu CLI. No bridge server is required.

For Claude Platform on AWS, see [Connect AWS Claude managed agent](/agents/get-started/aws-claude). To try without your own API key, select **Try a demo agent** in the CLI (`npx novu connect`).

## Prerequisites

* Node.js on your machine
* A [Novu account](https://dashboard.novu.co/agents) (you can create one during setup)
* An [Anthropic API key](https://console.anthropic.com/settings/keys)
* A Slack workspace where you can install apps

## Connect Claude

<Steps>
  <Step>
    ## Run the CLI

    ```bash theme={null}
    npx novu connect
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ## Choose Claude Managed Agent

    When the CLI asks **Where your agent runs?**, select **Claude Managed Agent**.

    The CLI prompts for your **Anthropic API key** (`sk-ant-…`). Paste the key from the [Anthropic console](https://console.anthropic.com/settings/keys). Novu verifies it and creates a Claude runtime integration in your environment.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ## Create the agent

    1. Describe the agent in plain text, for example:

       ```text theme={null}
       Create an engineering assistant agent that checks Linear and GitHub for open issues, pending PR reviews, and review requests. It summarizes what needs attention, flags blockers and stale tickets, and posts a short daily standup digest. It keeps responses concise and links back to the relevant Linear issue or GitHub pull request.
       ```

    2. Novu generates a name, identifier, system prompt, tools, MCP servers, and skills from that description.

    3. Review the fields. Select **Create this agent**, or **Regenerate from description** to revise.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ## Connect Slack

    When prompted to pick a channel, select **Slack**.

    1. Open [https://api.slack.com/apps](https://api.slack.com/apps).
    2. Under **App Configuration Tokens**, click **Generate Token**.
    3. Copy the access token (starts with `xoxe.xoxp-`).
    4. Paste it into the CLI. Novu uses it once to create the Slack app and does not store it.
    5. Follow the install link to add the bot to your workspace.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ## Send a message

    Open Slack and DM the agent (or @mention it in a channel). If the generated config includes Linear or GitHub MCP servers, the agent may prompt you to authorize them in-thread.

    Manage channels and conversations in the [Novu dashboard](https://dashboard.novu.co/agents).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Non-interactive / CI: `npx novu connect --runtime claude --anthropic-api-key <key>`. See [Create an agent](/api-reference/agents/create-an-agent) for the REST API.
</Note>
