You can use Braze to send transactional emails through Novu. Novu calls Braze’s messaging API and maps recipients by email address to Braze external user IDs.

Getting started

You need a Braze account, a REST API key with messaging permissions, your Braze REST endpoint (base URL), and an app ID from your Braze workspace.

Generating an API key

  1. Sign up or log in to Braze.
  2. Go to Settings > APIs and Identifiers (wording can vary slightly by Braze dashboard version).
  3. Create an API key with permission to send messages.
  4. Copy the key and store it securely.

Finding your base URL and app ID

  1. Use the Braze REST endpoint that matches your Braze instance (for example https://rest.iad-01.braze.com).
  2. Copy an App Identifier from Settings > APIs and Identifiers. Novu sends this as app_id on each email message.
Recipients must already exist in Braze with an email address Novu can resolve to a Braze external_id. If Braze cannot map the email, the send fails.

Creating a Braze integration with Novu

  1. Visit the Integrations page on Novu.
  2. Click Add a provider.
  3. Locate Braze under the Email section and click Connect.
  4. Enter your:
    • API Key
    • Base URL (Braze REST endpoint)
    • App ID
    • From email address
    • Sender name
  5. Confirm Active Integration is on. New integrations start active by default.
  6. Click Create Integration.
You can now send transactional email with Braze through Novu.
